Hoya Krohniana 'Black' is a beautiful and rare cultivar of the Hoya Krohniana species, known for its small, heart-shaped, deep green to nearly black leaves. It’s a relatively easy-going plant if you meet its basic care requirements. Here's how to care for it:

Light

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal.

  • Avoid direct sun, especially during the hottest part of the day, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Can tolerate some lower light, but growth will slow and leaves may lose their dark hue.

Watering

  • Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.

  • Water thoroughly, letting excess drain out. Do not let it sit in water.

  • Reduce watering in cooler months.

 Temperature & Humidity

  • Prefers warm temps: 65–85°F (18–29°C).

  • Protect from temps below 50°F (10°C).

  • High humidity (50% or more) is best. Will tolerate lower levels but may grow slower.

 Soil

  • Use a well-draining mix, like:

    • 2 parts orchid bark

    • 1 part perlite or pumice

    • 1 part cactus or succulent mix

  • Avoid moisture-retentive soils.

 Fertilizer

  • Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.

  • No need to fertilize in fall/winter when growth slows.

 Other Tips

  • It's a slow grower, so patience is key.

  • Can bloom in the right conditions—usually once mature and receiving ample light.

  • Consider a trellis or hanging pot to let it trail or climb naturally.
